SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE REDUCES UNDERAGE DRINKING
Santa Cruz County’s Social Host Ordinance holds accountable and provides penalties for persons who host gatherings where alcohol is being served to, consumed by, or in the possession of minors. By holding to account individuals who host such events, this ordinance helps reduce youth access to alcohol at social events and solidifies and enforces the message that allowing underage drinking will not be tolerated in Santa Cruz County. The ordinance deters hosts from creating dangerous and illegal situations involving minors and will reduce negative consequences associated with such gatherings and supports parents who may be tentative in setting strict rules around underage drinking in their home.
