SERIAL INEBRIATE PROJECT IMPROVES LIVES, REDUCES COSTS
The goal of the Santa Cruz County Serial Inebriate Project (SIP) is to improve the quality of clients’ lives and reduce the social and financial impacts on the community by providing substance abuse treatment and intensive case management as an alternative to incarceration for chronic public inebriates. SIP clients have had five or more public drunkenness arrests in the past six months. In addition to helping clients, the SIP saves money in reduced jail bookings, ambulance runs, emergency department visits, and jail days served.
